From Cycle & Carriage Bintang Press Release
Local fashion brand, STEP8IGHT, launched its latest collection titled Project-260, a minimalistic clothing line inspired by the coming together of car parts that brings one on the journey of life. Created by the brand’s founder and Malaysian YouTuber, Phei Yong, the collection reflects his journey of achieving new milestones throughout his 10-year career.
Titled “Project-260”, the clothing line represented the 260-mile-long journey that Phei Yong took to travel from his hometown to the city he currently lives in to kickstart his career.
Every Journey Begins with the First Step
“Fashion is a form of artistic expression that has the power to tell impactful stories. This time with STEP8IGHT’s latest collection, I wanted to inspire others to be bold and take the first step to pursue their ambitions. Project-260 tells the story of my personal and professional journey which can be likened to driving a car, where at times conditions around us may force us to slow down when we want to speed up, while there are occasions when we need to keep going even when we prefer to remain stagnant. Hence, Project-260 is a collection designed to encourage ambitious and daring individuals to keep in step with their goals and dreams,” shared Phei Yong.
Strut in Stylish Auto-inspired Clothing
Taking inspiration from the aesthetic of car parts, Project-260 is a streetwear collection that features simple yet refined modern designs. The series is made up of achromatic colors that symbolize dignity and purity that one should hold on to in the process of reaching their ambitions. At the same time, the collection’s various materials are selected to represent different road conditions and challenges faced in life, such as strong textures to represent the roughness of asphalt roads, smooth fabrics to represent slippery roads, and brown fabric to represent mountain trails.
“We are proud to collaborate with Cycle & Carriage for Project-260 as they have always been focused on creating exceptional journeys and experiences for people and the community around them. This is in line with the values shared by STEP8IGHT, which is to make the most of the journey before arriving at the destination. We hope that as our customers don themselves in pieces from this collection, it will give them the confidence to stay the course and embrace the process of pursuing their goals,” said Phei Yong.
To further cement the story of the journey toward his goals, each piece in the collection was also numbered with coordinates of different cities that Phei Yong had lived in throughout his journey of reaching his goals. Meanwhile, the designs of the buttons on each garment were inspired by car seatbelts, symbolizing safety and the importance of taking calculated risks. At the same time, the brand also revealed its concept of no limitations, no rules, and freedom through the random and unrestrained label placements on the garments.
“Cycle & Carriage is excited to support STEP8IGHT and Phei Yong as he begins his journey through craftsmanship and shaping the culture here in Malaysia. We remain committed to creating exceptional journeys and experiences for Malaysians, which includes elevating lifestyles through more ways beyond automotive services, and in this case, fashion” said Mr. Thomas Tok, CEO of Cycle & Carriage Malaysia.
A tribute to dad: Taking inspiration from his biggest role model
The fashion enthusiast regards his father as the muse for STEP8IGHT and the motivation for him to remain resilient in his professional career. “I attribute my successes today to my dad who has taught me the value of self-worth and determination. He truly left a huge impact on my personal beliefs and principles which has shaped my work values today, even when it comes to building my fashion brand,” shared Phei Yong.
The Project-260 fashion show by STEP8IGHT was held in Cycle & Carriage Mutiara Damansara which was transformed into a futuristic runway. The fashion show featured new styles modelled by some of Malaysia’s top content creators, influencers, and models including Michiyo Ho, Brian See, and Elyn Leong. The event was attended by many local personalities, designers, and collaborators of the project.
